Skate Night: Making some strides.
Another week, another trip out to Below the Bridge Skatepark in Bayonne, New Jersey with everyone from Nike Stadium and the Quartersnacks crew.
With some of the usual squad members not being able to make it this time, we linked up with Jahmal Williams, Quim Cardona and Todd Jordan, who along with the lot of us, were working their way out of a long, weather-induced skateboard slump from the past few months. Todd had been coming off an elbow injury from late last summer, so it had been the first time he was on a board in a bit. Everyone managed to make the best of the situation and get a few solid tricks down pact as the night wore on, so everyone’s confidence is definitely building.
We’ve been making some strides since we first attempted to re-learn tricks in 2011, because this time around, a lot of the bigger obstacles (well, relatively bigger, there’s not exactly much intimidating terrain in the park, which makes it a solid training environment) like the hubbas, rails, and taller banks were put to use, instead of merely sticking to the two ledges and the small quarterpipes. But when that didn’t work out, some of us chose to skate a curb high wooden box with angle iron it that the park recently threw on the course, for a completely opposite effect.
